Kvrivishvili: Consistent development across port, rail, and road networks is fundamental to strengthening transport infrastructure

“We place special emphasis on the development of the transport sector, and port infrastructure represents one of its most critical hubs,” stated the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, during a visit to Batumi Sea Port alongside the Prime Minister to review ongoing operations on-site.

As Mariam Kvrivishvili noted, the government is actively collaborating with port operators to strengthen maritime infrastructure and boost freight volumes.

“We are working closely with ports operating in Georgia to offer maximum support in expanding port infrastructure, enabling them to receive and process greater volumes of cargo. That was precisely the purpose of our visit to Batumi Port, where we inspected the existing facilities,” Mariam Kvrivishvili noted.

A meeting was held at Batumi Sea Port with port operators.

“It is particularly gratifying that every port operator confirms freight throughput is effectively reaching record levels, specifically here at Batumi Port. Volumes have increased across all cargo categories, demonstrating once again that Georgia remains a reliable partner. Georgia has enhanced its competitiveness on the international stage and plays a vital role within the context of the Middle Corridor. Consequently, consistent infrastructure development, be it port, rail, or road, is fundamentally important for expanding our nation’s transport network and ensuring the transport sector continues to make a vital contribution to our economy,” the Minister stated.
