“The US has repeatedly said that it stands with Georgian people and announced its first tranche of sanctions in protection of the Georgian people’s interests,” said Badri Japaridze, leader of the Lelo party.
According to Badri Japaridze, the US designated those who betrayed Georgia’s national interests and acted against Georgian people in favour of Russia’s interests.
“They (GD leaders) adopted a law which isolates the country from the West, contradicts the will of 80% of the people, driving to the halt in opening the EU accession talks. The law is oriented to the discrimination of the majority of society and is against Georgia’s Constitution. Therefore, the initiators of the law and police officials who extorted violence against peaceful protesters should bear responsibility. The main victory is ahead, on October 26,” he wrote on Facebook.
The US Department of State spokesperson, Matthew Miller, announced visa restrictions on dozens of Georgian citizens. According to him, the first tranche includes members of the Georgian Dream, members of parliament, law enforcement officers and individuals.
