Legislative amendments were introduced in Parliament to establish Georgian Academy of Diplomacy
During today’s session of the Bureau of Parliament, legislative amendments were introduced to establish the Georgian Academy of Diplomacy, a legal entity of public law.
The draft law states that the Academy will have the status of a higher education institution operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. It will offer bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes, along with a one-year specialised qualification enhancement course.
The amendments also introduce a new system for training diplomatic personnel. Under this system, individuals who obtain a certificate confirming successful completion of the Academy’s one-year qualification course will be eligible for appointment to diplomatic positions in accordance with the “Rules for Passing Diplomatic Service”.
Furthermore, the draft law proposes changes to the procedure for conferring diplomatic ranks and expands the list of senior diplomatic positions eligible for appointment as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary.
As a reminder, on May 8, 2026, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced during a government session that a new higher education institution, the Georgian Academy of Diplomacy, would be established by government decision. The Prime Minister emphasised that the government’s goal is to train highly qualified personnel for the diplomatic service, which is vital for further strengthening the country’s foreign policy standing.
