Legal Affairs Committee Chair decries threats to independence as blackmail

Archil Gorduladze, Chair of the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee, emphasized the importance of maintaining Georgia’s independence while striving for simplified travel options.

“The Georgian Dream has successfully secured visa liberalization for Georgia, and we are committed to fulfilling the obligations we have undertaken before the EU,” Gorduladze stated.

He noted that the Association Agreement outlines directives aimed at aligning Georgian legislation with European standards.

“We work diligently in this direction every day, in both Parliament and the government. Each step taken by the Georgian Dream ensures the fulfilment of our commitments. We do not accept any attempts to point fingers, intimidate, or blackmail us.

Free movement should never be used as a tool for coercing the Georgian people. When simplified travel is weighed against the nation’s independence and sovereignty, it becomes a blatant attempt at blackmail.

We will honour our commitments and, by standing firm and with dignity, ensure that all actions taken are in the best interest of the Georgian people. Regardless of threats or intimidation, they will ultimately meet with failure,” he asserted.
