Legal Affairs Committee approved amendments to Election Code

The Legal Affairs Committee approved amendments to the Election Code at the first reading. The amendments aim to clarify certain electoral procedures, including issues related to the registration of international observers and their accompanying interpreters.

According to the rapporteur, Davit Matikashvili, Chair of the Procedural Issues and Rules Committee, under the draft organic law, the procedures for individuals to carry out photo and video recording and audio monitoring during election commission sessions will be established by a decree from the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Pursuant to the proposed amendments, an international observer may only be a foreign citizen who has reached the age of 18. Additionally, procedures for registering interpreters accompanying international observers have also been established.

The authors and initiators of the draft law are MPs: Archil Gorduladze, Tornike Cheishvili, Rati Ionatamishvili, Aluda Gudushauri, Davit Matikashvili, Guram Macharashvili, Akaki Aladashvili, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Alexandre Tabatadze, and Irakli Shatakishvili.
