Law enforcement foils major attempt to smuggle large quantities of psychotropic substances into Georgia
Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), in cooperation with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance, thwarted an attempt to illegally purchase, store, and smuggle a significant quantity of psychotropic substances into Georgia. During the operation, law enforcement detained a person, identified as G.G., born in 1997.
As part of the investigation, authorities seized up to 9 litres of a liquid containing a substantial amount of the psychotropic substance “ketamine,” evidence recovered from the suspect’s hand luggage at Tbilisi International Airport, which was distributed across 10 plastic bottles.
The case is now under investigation under Articles 261 and 263 of the Criminal Code, which carry a penalty of up to 12 years’ imprisonment.
