The Land Transport Agency has issued an urgent warning to citizens regarding fraudulent SMS text messages circulating across mobile networks.

“A segment of the population has been receiving SMS text messages masquerading as reminders to pay fines for alleged traffic violations. These fraudulent messages contain a specific account number and a link to process the payment.

We strongly advise citizens that, should they receive a text message of this nature, they must not follow the provided instructions, click any links, or share any personal or banking credentials.

For any further clarification or to report a message, contact the Land Transport Agency hotline directly on 032 236 55 01,” the Agency’s official statement read.
