In Eastern Europe, Georgia deserves most to be a member of the European Union family and Trans-Atlantic Institutions – American diplomat and expert of International Relations Kurt Volker, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to NATO and executive director of the McCain Institute for International Leadership told Georgian First Channel within the framework of the 56^th Munich Security Conference.

“Georgia does much of its homework. It is clear that members of the Georgian government discuss Georgia’s state sovereignty and territorial integrity, Black Sea regional security and NATO representation in the Black Sea together with European partners. All these topics discussed at a round-table are very important,” Volker told Georgian First Channel.

The Munich Security Conference was established in 1963 by Ewald-Heinrich von Kleist-Schmenzin, a former German army officer who participated in a failed attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler, with the aim of gathering leaders and diplomatic experts to discuss the state of NATO and relations between powers on either side of the Atlantic.

Over the decades, the annual meeting has grown to include global security concerns, with Munich’s grand Bayerisch Hof hotel becoming a stage for searing political speeches.
