Judoka Ilia Sulamanidze secures gold medal at Tokyo Grand Slam 2025
Georgian judoka Ilia Sulamanidze daced Japanese Dota Ara in the finals of the men’s -100 kg weight category at the Tokyo Grand Slam 2025 tournament and secured the first gold medal for the Georgian team.
Ilia Sulamanidze won a medal at the Tokyo Grand Slam for the first time in his career, and became the fourth Georgian after Davit Bodaveli (1982), Avtandil Chrikishvili (2015) and Beka Ghviniashvili (2019) to win this prestigious tournament.
Two Georgian judokas, Eter Liparteliani (57 kg) and Giorgi Jabniashvili (90 kg) secured bronze medals at the Tokyo Grand Slam 2025. Liparteliani defeated a French judoka, while Jabniashvili beat an Italian competitor.
