Judge Murusidze questions efficacy of vetting in ensuring judicial honesty

Judge Levan Murusidze expressed his concerns regarding the approach of labelling judges as corrupt within the judicial system, suggesting it undermines the integrity of the judiciary.

Murusidze emphasized the importance of fair judgment and expressed scepticism towards the concept of vetting against the court, questioning its effectiveness in ensuring honesty. He called for a balanced approach, where judges are treated with respect and their freedom of expression is upheld.

Regarding Georgia’s path towards joining the European Union, Murusidze stressed the significance of an independent judiciary. He highlighted the case of Albania, where he argued that the implementation of vetting did not lead to EU membership.

These remarks were made by Murusidze at the 32nd conference of Judges of Georgia, held at the Higher School of Justice.
