PM: Vetting goes against principle of rule of law

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said, “The vetting goes against the principle of the rule of law, the constitutional-legal principles and contradicts the principle of independence of the court. That is why it is unacceptable to us.”

In his remark to the media, the PM noted, “If anyone argues that it does not violate our sovereignty, and the rule of law, we are ready to consider all the arguments.”

The PM stated that during 2004-2012, the previous government “used vetting as one of the instruments to subjugate the judicial system.”

“The EU presents values for us, and unfortunately, Adeishvili’s visits [to the EU] are contrary to EU values. The same statements regarding vetting are contrary to EU values. So the starting point for us is the EU. If there are arguments, we will hear, ”the Prime Minister added.
