Jens Stoltenberg – It is only upon NATO members and Georgia to decide when Georgia will become alliance member
“It is only upon NATO members and Georgia to decide when Georgia will become a member of the alliance. Russia does not have the right to interfere into this process,” Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of North-Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) said during a press conference in response to a question of the journalist of First Channel.
First Channel inquired about the issues, which will be discussed at Georgia-NATO Commission Sitting to be held in Brussels, Belgium, within the framework of NATO Defense Ministerial.
NATO Chief said that partnership issues would be considered during the sitting and NATO members would be introduced with the latest information about Georgia’s achievements.
According to Stoltenberg, NATO would assist Georgia in continuing implementation of reforms in the security sector. NATO Chief also reiterated support to Georgia’s territorial integrity and state sovereignty.
“We will never recognize independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. We will keep on supporting Georgia on a path leading to NATO membership,” Stoltenberg said.
