“The United National Movement was formed, among other reasons, to respond to unlawful constructions and environmental damage. Now we are limited to making statements from TV studios. I don’t like it, and we will change it,” wrote jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili in his Facebook post.

According to Saakashvili, it had long been known that the construction projects posed a threat to the safety of the population.

He slammed the Georgian Dream officials for issuing construction permits in return for taking bribes and called them ignorant.

“Corruption, ignorance and supporting GD are dangerous to your health and life,” he said, at the same time criticizing the opposition for not fulfilling its role.

“I must highlight the opposition’s failure to fulfil its role. It had long been known that the construction projects posed a threat to public safety. Why didn’t they raise an alarm sooner? Why did they wait for a tragedy to occur before stepping in as television commentators?” Saakashvili wrote.
