Irakli Kobakhidze defends Election Code updates: Electronic voting allows streamlined procedures without restricting legal appeals

“Recent amendments to Georgia’s Election Code simply modernise administrative protocols in line with the adoption of electronic voting technology,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told reporters today.

The head of government rejected claims that the legislative changes undermine electoral integrity, assuring that the right to contest election protocols remains fully intact across all polling stations.

“Nothing is being restricted. The results protocol from any polling station can still be formally appealed. The remaining updates are technical adjustments reflecting the practical integration of electronic voting systems,” Kobakhidze stated.

“Given that elections are now conducted electronically, certain administrative procedures could safely be streamlined, and that is precisely what this legislation provides for,” the Prime Minister added.
