A regular meeting under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) was held in Ergneti.
According to Irakli Antadze, Deputy Director of the Analytical Department of the State Security Service of Georgia, the primary issues discussed were the illegal detention of Georgian citizens and ongoing cases of unlawful “borderization.”
Thirteen instances of borderization have been recorded along the occupation line in recent weeks. Currently, ten Georgian citizens remain in the custody of the de facto Tskhinvali regime. The parties reviewed all incidents that have occurred since the previous IPRM meeting.
Antadze noted that representatives of the occupied Tskhinvali region once again raised the issue of the Georgian police checkpoint in Chorchana.
In addition to security matters, humanitarian issues were discussed. A technical meeting took place beforehand, during which the sides reviewed plans related to irrigation system arrangements.
“The main issue on the agenda was the immediate release of persons held in illegal detention. Unfortunately, we still do not have a concrete answer regarding the timing of their release. With the help of international partners, we continue working to ensure that these individuals return to their families,” Antadze said.
He added that all significant incidents along the occupation line were discussed, including new cases of illegal borderization. The Georgian side reiterated its firm position that such destructive actions are unacceptable and pose risks to local communities.
The issue of freedom of movement was also addressed, and technical experts—including representatives from international organizations—participated in the meeting to examine future areas of cooperation.
Antadze emphasized that the occupation regime persistently claims the Chorchana police checkpoint poses a threat, but the Georgian side rejects this.
“The occupation regime continuously raises the issue of the Chorchana police checkpoint, claiming it poses a threat. In this regard, I would like to emphasize that a standard police post does not represent any danger. All risks have long been neutralized. The only threat existed at the time when the post was placed for harmful purposes. As for the statements made by representatives of the occupation regime regarding the alleged seizure of the post, the central government has a clear and well-established position on this matter, which was once again conveyed during the meeting,” Antadze said following the meeting.
