Interior Ministry issues statement regarding Georgia's Independence Day celebrations

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) is reminding citizens that, in connection with events marking Georgia’s Independence Day, traffic restrictions are in place on Rustaveli Avenue in the direction of Freedom Square, along the section of road up to the junction with Zurab Chichinadze Street, until 08:00 on May 27,” reads a notice issued by the Ministry.

According to the Interior Ministry, during the said period, vehicles travelling from Rustaveli Avenue will be able to proceed as far as Gia Chanturia Street, from where a left turn via Chanturia and Virsaladze Streets will bring them to the right bank of the Mtkvari River, connecting with Nikoloz Baratashvili Street.

“Traffic is also restricted on Freedom Square and the surrounding area. Furthermore, until the end of the day on May 28, traffic restrictions are in place on Atoneli Street, in the vicinity of the Presidential Palace.

Vehicles travelling from Soliko Virsaladze and Giorgi Chanturia Streets in the direction of Atoneli Street will be able to use Italia Street towards the Dry Bridge, whilst drivers heading from the Dry Bridge towards Atoneli Street will travel via Virsaladze and Chanturia Streets.

Vehicles exiting from the right bank of the Mtkvari River (Zviad Gamsakhurdia Embankment, from Rena Abzhandadze Street) will be able to travel as far as Vakhtang Orbeliani Street and then continue in the direction of Mtkvari Street.

Additionally, until and including May 28, traffic is restricted in the area around the Dry Bridge, on Italia and Atoneli Streets.

During the period of restrictions, vehicles travelling from Saarbrücken Square towards the Dry Bridge will be redirected towards the right bank of the Mtkvari River (via Giovanni Scudieri Street), whilst vehicles heading from Virsaladze Street towards the Dry Bridge will travel as far as Atoneli Street, then turn right in the direction of Chanturia Street,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs states.
