Interior Ministry issues official statement on changes to driving licence regulations

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has issued an official statement regarding amendments to the theory and practical driving licence examinations.

According to the Ministry, candidates sitting the theory examination for a Category B driving licence will be permitted to make up to five errors rather than the current three, meaning that out of 30 questions, a candidate must now answer 25 correctly.

Additionally, upon completing the first stage of the practical examination (the manoeuvring course), candidates will immediately be able to book their preferred time slot for the second stage of the practical test at an Agency branch, without any waiting period.

The Ministry also notes that, with a view to improving the driving examination process, the test routes in Gori and Batumi have been revised.

A further change will come into force on June 15, 2026. Under the current rules, the 12th minor error in the second stage of the Category B practical driving examination automatically constitutes a serious error, resulting in immediate termination of the test. Once the amendment takes effect, candidates will be permitted up to 14 minor errors, with the 15th error triggering termination of the examination.
