German Interior Minister: Georgian government does everything for prevention of increase in number of asylum-seekers

Thomas de Maizière, Federal Minister of the Interior of Germany stated that Georgian government is doing everything for prevention of the increase in the number of asylum-seekers from Georgia. Thomas de Maizière stated in that regard before the session of EU Justice and Interior Ministers in Brussels.

“Increase of asylum-seekers from Georgia is alarming. Georgian Government is informed about it and does everything to prevent the process.

We are glad to cooperate with Georgia regarding the return of those citizens, who were rejected granting of asylum. Nevertheless, we will have to discuss the results with the European Commission, if such developments continue”, – Thomas de Maizière said.

The meeting of EU Justice and Interior Ministers is being held in Brussels today.
