Inmates likely to be allowed homeless pets in prisons

The Georgian Parliamentary Human Rights and Civic Integration Committee on Friday discussed the Therapy with Paws program initiated through a petition signed by 2040 citizens.

The project, a part of the inmates’ rehabilitation, allows the convicts to adopt homeless pets and care for them in the prisons.

The project author, Shorena Lobzhanidze, spoke about the program’s benefits and the experience of foreign countries.

The Committee Chair, Mikheil Sarjveladze, said he was not only “interested but enthusiastic” over the issue and pledged readiness to establish a working group in the parliament.
