Georgia’s Minister of Infrastructure, Revaz Sokhadze, said all relevant government agencies have been mobilized to ensure that the damage caused by severe weather in Telavi is repaired as quickly as possible.

Speaking from the affected area, Sokhadze said the government would also introduce preventive measures aimed at reducing the impact of similar disasters in the future.

“Last night, Telavi was hit by severe weather, and the city’s central street sustained significant damage. All relevant agencies of the Ministry of Infrastructure have been mobilized, and every ministry is involved in the response. Together with government officials, members of parliament, and the regional governor, we are working to restore the city as quickly as possible and return it to its normal rhythm,” Sokhadze said.

He added that authorities would study the causes and implement all necessary preventive measures to minimize the consequences should similar weather events occur again.

Heavy rainfall in Telavi flooded the ground floors of residential buildings and other properties, damaged power lines, and caused damage to vehicles. Authorities have established an emergency operations headquarters comprising representatives of both the national and local governments to coordinate recovery efforts.
