Infectious Diseases Center Director: Two people die of flu, no COVID-related deaths
“The increase of respiratory virus cases is observed globally and Georgia is not an exception. There is no emergent situation or ground for panic,” said Tengiz Tsertsvadze, Director of the Infectious Diseases, AIDS and Clinical Immunology Research Center.
Tengiz Tsertsvadze rejected the reports that hospitals have no sufficient beds or places. He said that two people died of flu complications this season and Georgia had no deaths of COVID-19.
Tsertsvadze warned that respiratory infections might rise in February and March but claimed that infections are well managed, adding “Nothing extraordinary happens in Georgia.”
Tengiz Tsertsvadze explained that COVID-19 helped to strengthen the Georgian health system, and led to the improvement of infrastructure and the intellectual level of doctors. He urged people to get immunized.
“Vaccination has sense, immunity begins to generate after two weeks from receiving a vaccine. Classic time for vaccination is belated but we have another peak ahead in February-March,” he said.
