Ilia II - Sad to say that there is no understanding between the government and the opposition

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II together with the bishops and clergy received ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic corps.

The Ambassadors expressed their support to Ilia II and noted that the role of the Church and of His Holiness and Beatitude in the development of Georgia is huge.

The Patriarchate of Georgia says the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia thanked the ambassadors for their visit and support.

‘We live in a difficult time when there are many problems in states and in their relationships.

As you know, Georgia has multiple challenges too. First of all, territorial integrity is violated. 20 per cent – Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region are not yet under our control.

I have been Metropolitan Bishop of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia for 11 years and was elected as Patriarch of All Georgia in Abkhazia 42 years ago, so naturally, this issue is very painful for me.

Sad to say that there is no understanding between the government and the opposition. First of all, we need to learn to listen to each other. By listening and understanding we will achieve what our country needs.

I am grateful and Georgia is grateful for your help, your support,’ Ilia II addressed the ambassadors.

The Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia thanked the ambassadors for their support and wished them success.
