Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary named the selfishness of the European leaders, the unwillingness to give financial resources and enlargement fatigue as the reasons why Georgia did not receive the EU candidate status that was, in his words, a “totally unfair” decision.

Ahead of the Third European Political Community Summit, the Hungarian PM underscored that he is “the most devoted supporter” of Georgia’s EU membership.

“I’m the most devoted supporter of your membership. It is totally unfair that you are not promised to become as soon as you can because you have done a great job and we need you very much. Selfish, you know the leaders are selfish, they would not like to let you in and get the sources financially, which you need.

So, you know, they call it fatigue, enlargement fatigue, which is totally unfair to your country. We have to share what we have with you, because we need you anyway. You have a strategic position. I’m a big promoter. Next week I’m in your country anyway. We have a common governmental meeting. The Hungarian government will be there, all the ministers will be there with me,” he said.
