Human Rights Committee Chair: Borrell's statement undermines EU principles

Rati Ionatamishvili, Chair of the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee, stated that Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative, has undermined the principles the EU upholds. Speaking on GPB’s First Channel, he criticized Borrell for violating the principle of fairness and urged him to consider his words more carefully.

“Our society will respond by rejecting any attempts to empower the radical opposition, which lacks trust and support. This will ultimately facilitate the Georgian Dream’s success in securing a constitutional majority. Everyone must respect the decision made by the Georgian people, which will clearly indicate unconditional support for the GD,” Ionatamishvili commented.

He also emphasized that Georgia is a frontrunner among EU candidate countries and remarked that the EU has made unjust decisions in the past.

“They will have to apologize after October 26,” he asserted.

“Let’s wait for the upcoming parliamentary elections, which will be a crucial test for democracy in Georgia and its path toward the European Union,” Borrell stated at a press conference following the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting on October 14.
