Health Ministry to finance treatment for children with congenital heart defects living in regions
Georgian Health Ministry will finance the treatment of children with congenital heart defects living in the regions at the Geneva University Hospital.
The Ministry noted that surgeries, which cannot be performed in Georgia but are recommended by the medical commission and branch specialists, will be funded within the referral service state program starting in 2026, with the involvement of high technologies and qualified medical personnel.
Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze met with Tornike Sologhashvili, a pediatric cardiac surgeon working in Switzerland and the medical director of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Department at the Geneva University Hospital.
Mikheil Sarjveladze remarked that by joining Children’s Cardiac Surgery Conventions, the Ministry expanded the program’s geographical area and the service became available for children under age 18 across the country.
The sides reviewed cooperation prospects and the significance of experience sharing. Deputy Health Minister Irine Tsakadze attended the meeting.
