In recognition of the needs of children diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and the concerns of their parents, the Ministry of Health has reached an agreement with Abbott Laboratories, the manufacturer of the Libre 2+ continuous glucose monitoring system, and has proceeded with its purchase.

Applications for the device are now being accepted and will be processed in stages. The monitoring devices will be distributed to patients who require the use of the sensor.

Minister of Health Mikheil Sarjveladze held consultations with medical specialists to establish clear criteria for distribution. During the meeting, the parameters and clinical factors that determine the necessity for the Libre 2+ system were thoroughly discussed.

The FreeStyle Libre 2+ is a modern continuous blood glucose monitoring system comprising two components: a sensor and a reader. The sensor has a lifespan of 15 days, while the reader retains data for up to 90 days.

For beneficiaries of the Georgian state programme, the American company has established a dedicated hotline. For technical support or to report a defect, contact +995 800 00 80 77 during weekdays from 09:00 to 17:00.

As a reminder, since 2022, children with type 1 diabetes have also been provided with advanced continuous blood glucose monitoring systems from Medtronic, an American-Irish company.
