Health Minister on Duchenne medications: Scientific evidence is crucial, risk of making mistakes is high
“This is a sphere where we cannot make decisions based only on emotions. Scientific evidence is essential and crucial. Otherwise, the risk of making mistakes is high,” said Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze, when speaking about medications for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).
The Minister views the exchange of information and analysis in practice from various countries. Mikheil Sarjveladze said he met with the General Secretary of the Federal Health Ministry of Belgium and representatives of international partner organizations.
Sarjveladze noted that since questions remain, work should continue in professional and constructive formats to make rational and fact-based decisions.
“The world has no real answers, and everyone is in the process of searching. We are involved in this process, and with hope, we are expecting the moment when we have concrete answers about particular medications. This is a sphere where we cannot make decisions based only on emotions. Any decision must be made responsibly; it is essential to gather scientific evidence and make decisions based solely on it. Scientific evidence is essential and crucial,” he said.
According to Sarjveladze, holding rallies does not serve the interests of patients. Everyone is ready to get the work process underway and make decisions as quickly as possible that will primarily serve the people who need this medicine the most,” he concluded.
