Health Minister meets with World Bank representatives

Georgian Minister of Health, Mikheil Sarjveladze, held a meeting with the World Bank’s Regional Director, Roland Price, the Head of the Health Sector for Europe and Central Asia, Rekha Menon, and other senior representatives of the organisation.

According to the Ministry of Health, the discussions centred on ongoing and planned reforms within Georgia’s healthcare system, alongside other priority areas for collaboration.

“Special attention was given to strengthening primary healthcare, enhancing the quality of medical services, and expanding their accessibility to the population,” the statement read.

The meeting also covered the mechanism for establishing reference prices for medicines and the activities of the relevant commission. This mechanism was recognised as a vital tool for effective and systematic regulation, contributing to greater transparency within the pharmaceutical market, the setting of fair prices, and the safeguarding of patients’ interests.

Furthermore, the importance of human capital development as a key driver of the country’s long-term socio-economic progress was emphasised during the discussions.

The press release concludes that the World Bank will continue to provide active support for Georgia’s ongoing reforms and development initiatives across various sectors.
