Health Minister highlights significant increase in cancer support funding

“The government has been highly active in supporting cancer patients, and the evidence is clear,” stated Mikheil Sarjveladze, Georgia’s Minister of Health.

The minister emphasised that this commitment is reflected in the rising budget for oncology care.

“Just a few years ago, funding for cancer patients did not exceed GEL 50 million; now, it stands at GEL 300 million. This is a tangible testament to our dedication. We focus on tangible improvements through real initiatives, without resorting to superficial campaigns. Oncology is not a matter for politicians to exploit for political gain; that is both unethical and unacceptable,” Sarjveladze affirmed.

Addressing a protest rally held at the Health Ministry, Sarjveladze noted ongoing engagement with programme beneficiaries and stakeholders.

“They have never encountered any issues with meetings, and I am unsure why they feel the need to request a meeting with the ministry. These meetings are already taking place. I doubt they have ever faced a closed door. In this regard, our ministry’s door is always open. Regarding the substance of their concerns, it would be helpful if they could clearly specify their requests and issues, as well as how specific decisions can be made to address them properly,” said Mikheil Sarjveladze.
