Health Minister: Convicts without health issues should be in prison; moving Saakashvili was correct decision
Georgia’s Minister of Health, Mikheil Sarjveladze, believes transferring former President Mikheil Saakashvili from the clinic to a penitentiary was a logical and appropriate decision.
Sarjveladze stated that a prisoner without health problems should serve their sentence in a standard prison setting.
“No one can present a valid argument against this decision or why it should not have been implemented. I believe it is an entirely reasonable decision. An individual who is not suffering from health issues and is serving a sentence should be held in prison, just like all other inmates. I fail to understand the attempts to portray this as anything negative, to suggest misunderstanding, or to spread insinuations,” Sarjveladze remarked.
Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred from the Vivamedi Clinic to the Penitentiary institution N12 [Rustavi prison] yesterday, November 12.
