Head of Government Administration says strengthening civic initiatives should be national importance matter
The State Grant Management Agency has concluded its competition and announced the winners in the small grants category. It is the first occasion on which the government has provided funding for targeted civic initiatives, explained Levan Zhorzholiani, Head of the Administration of the Government of Georgia.
As Zhorzholiani noted, each project will receive up to GEL 100,000 in funding.
“Through the Grant Agency, we will actively monitor how beneficial these grants are for particular sectors or for the communities directly involved. The total budget allocated is GEL 1.65 million, supporting up to 17 projects. There has been significant interest from organisations, which is very encouraging,” he said.
He further added that the main areas receiving grants include education, civil rights, and environmental protection.
“The agency paid particular attention to projects supporting people with disabilities, which is also a priority for us. Additionally, noteworthy research in healthcare and environmental protection has been funded. We look forward to seeing the results in these areas. Strengthening civic initiatives within the country should be a matter of state interest. This approach is standard practice across all EU countries, where the state finances targeted civic projects. Such initiatives clearly reflect the government’s priorities; for example, supporting minors on the autistic spectrum, advancing education, or conducting environmental research,” Zhorzholiani explained.
