Head of Adjara Government meets with regional healthcare leaders and medical institution representatives

The Chairman of the Government of Adjara, Zurab Pataradze, alongside Minister of Health and Social Protection Nino Nizharadze, has met with representatives of the region’s medical sector, according to information released by the Administration of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.

According to the administration, key healthcare topics, the progress of ongoing programs, and current challenges were addressed during the meeting. The participants also discussed capacity-building and ways to enhance medical services across the region.

The Head of Government emphasised that maintaining stability and ensuring quality healthcare for both residents and visitors is particularly critical during the peak tourist season.

“We discussed current healthcare challenges and plans for the future with clinic directors and doctors. Given the high volume of tourist arrivals, providing timely, high-quality medical services is paramount. The budget for the Adjara Ministry of Health continues to grow, facilitating the expansion of healthcare programmes and offering greater support to the public. The development of medical infrastructure is also continuing. Construction of three medical facilities in the region will be completed very shortly. The involvement of healthcare professionals, along with incorporating their insights and recommendations, is vital to us so that we can tailor healthcare programs and accessible services even further to meet real needs,” Zurab Pataradze stated.

The meeting proceeded interactively, with medical sector representatives offering their views and recommendations regarding healthcare system needs and potential solutions. It was noted that the Public Health Centre is continuously monitoring the epidemiological situation in Adjara and implementing necessary measures to prevent infectious diseases in light of the tourist season.

“The development of medical infrastructure across the region continues. Adjacent to the Batumi Republican Hospital, construction is nearing completion on Polyclinic No. 1, an Emergency Medical Care Centre, and a multifunctional pediatric clinic. Plans are also underway to build a new, modern regional facility for Infectious Pathology, AIDS, and Tuberculosis.

The meeting also highlighted planned social initiatives: the construction of social housing projects is progressing in both Batumi and surrounding municipalities. As Zurab Pataradze highlighted, social policy should do more than just put a roof over people’s heads; it must create a stable, dignified environment where families can thrive.

The working meeting was attended by Rusudan Shavishvili, Director of the Public Health Centre, representatives from the Adjara Government and Ministry of Health, as well as delegates from regional medical institutions, including the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Republican Hospital, and Polyclinic No. 1,” reads the statement released by the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.
