Having big rallies during pandemic to be little risky, US Ambassador says

US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan thinks “it is a little risky to be having big rallies when Georgia has such a high number of Covid cases right now.”

“By any political party, this does not seem like a good time to be bringing large groups of people together. That’s said. There is a Constitutional right to gather, to assemble, to express your views peacefully; that is a keyword here – peacefully,” she asserted.

US Ambassador urges Georgian citizens “to stay calm.”

“Heading into this last few days what’s been a long and very contentious election, just urge voters, supporters – please, stay calm, the calls for calm from political leaders on all sides are very responsible and important. I hope that the supporters will allow voters to come out on Saturday in a calm environment to cast their votes,” she stated.

Earlier today, the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party held a closing pre-election rally at Liberty Square in downtown Tbilisi.
