Greek Parliament approves mutual recognition and exchange of national driving licenses with Georgia

On April 8, 2025, the Greek Parliament approved, by a majority vote, the agreement titled “On the Mutual Recognition and Exchange of National Driving Licenses between Georgia and the Hellenic Republic,” as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

According to the Ministry, Greece becomes the third EU country to enter into such an agreement with Georgia.

Levan Beridze, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Greece, noted that the ratification of this agreement by the Greek Parliament underscores the high level of active cooperation and the strong ties between Georgia and Greece.

“Under this agreement, holders of valid driving licenses issued by either party will have the opportunity to exchange their licenses for an equivalent one in their country of legal residence, without the need to take a theoretical or practical exam. This will facilitate their better integration into local society,” the ambassador stated.

The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the agreement was signed on September 26, 2024, in Athens, between the governments of Georgia and Greece. After internal state procedures were completed, Greece’s highest legislative body ratified this agreement, which will take effect after official notification of the ratification is communicated to the Georgian side.
