GPB Dir/Gen: Broadcaster's financing model should be reviewed and become more sustainable

“At the meeting with Shalva Papuashvili and Irakli Kobakhidze, we agreed that the broadcaster’s financing model should be reviewed and become more sustainable so that the public broadcaster does not lose its independence. We are in full agreement with this,” said the Director General of the GPB First Channel, Tinatin Berdzenishvili.

“It was a very important, necessary and timely meeting. We also talked about having adequate funding for the public broadcaster and the country. The fact that the public broadcaster had to request an additional budget every year because of the fixed funding volume was noteworthy for us. Taking this model off the table, we will move on to flexible one that will fund the public broadcaster adequately.

We also agreed that, first of all, the rules and regulations of the European Broadcasting Union and the European Zone in general will be adhered to. The public broadcaster will follow this standard,” Berdzenishvili asserted.

The Director General of the GPB First Channel, Tinatin Berdzenishvili, and the Chairman of the GPB Board of Trustees, Vasil Maglaperidze, on Sunday, met with the Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, and the Chairman of the Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze.
