Gov't evacuates Georgian citizens fleeing Ukraine

The Georgian government has been evacuating Georgian citizens from Romania and Poland after fleeing the war in neighbouring Ukraine.

Today, up to fifty Georgian citizens will return home from Romania. Earlier, forty evacuees arrived in the country.

Georgians will also arrive from Poland this week, said the Georgian Foreign Ministry, noting that overall, nearly 150 evacuees will return home.

Georgian citizens are also being transported from Ukraine’s city of Lviv to Poland’s capital Warsaw. Up to 500 passengers have already left Lviv, while an additional routes were designated on March 15-16.

Georgia’s diplomatic missions to Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, as well as in the bordering countries – Romania, Poland, Moldova, Slovakia, and Hungary, continue operating in emergency modes, the Georgian MFA said.

Currently, about 1,600 citizens have returned to Georgia from Ukraine.
