Government salutes police officers on Police Day

“The centuries-old history of our country is the struggle for peace and independence. Our police have always been at the forefront of this fight in the recent past,” Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri lauded the police officers’ loyalty and courage, remarking at the solemn Police Day event.

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili noted that those who dedicate their lives to serving the people and country deserve respect and appreciation. Garibashvili announced his decision to build the Police City in Tbilisi with one thousand apartments for police officers and their families.

“Police officers should know that the government will always care about them,” Garibashvili noted.

President Salome Zourabichvili remarked that the duties of police officers served as the cornerstone of maintaining security, stability, and peace in the country.

“On the path to our European integration, you are the stone that we step on, and that strengthens us, gives us the right to demand our place in Europe. All our partners, both in the country and abroad, already recognized your professionalism,” the President said.

The citizens and visitors of Georgia feel protected because of each of you, said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili in his congratulatory message.

Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party Irakli Kobakhidze praised the police as heroes, saying powerful police mean a safe state.

Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) marks Police Day on May 31. Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, President Salome Zourabichvili, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, members of the government and parliament and representatives of the Diplomatic Corps attended the event.
