Gori police violence victim hospitalised following deteriorating health condition
Papuna Lochulashvili, severely beaten by law enforcement officers in Gori’s Kombinati settlement, has been taken to hospital by an emergency response team following a deterioration in his health.
According to staff at the First University Clinic, the patient’s condition is stable, and he is currently undergoing tests.
“We have admitted a patient, Papuna Lochulashvili. I should specify that the patient was brought to us from his home address, and not at this stage from Gori. His condition is stable. He is currently breathing spontaneously. Today, the patient visited the Vivamed Clinic for examinations. However, he declined to stay as an inpatient and was discharged home. Whilst at home, his condition deteriorated somewhat; he experienced nausea and had a headache, as a result of which the ambulance that was called brought the patient to our clinic. His condition here is stable; he is breathing spontaneously. He is undergoing high-technology diagnostic procedures and has been seen in consultation by specialist physicians. The rest will depend on how the situation develops,” said Manana Lobzhanidze, the duty doctor at the Emergency Department of the First University Clinic.
When asked what had prompted the patient’s admission to the hospital, the doctor noted that there had been an episode of loss of consciousness; however, a CT scan had not confirmed a concussion, and the loss of consciousness had been brought on by pain.
“Yes, there was a moment of loss of consciousness; it was the pain that caused this condition. He is currently undergoing tests here. Based on the results, we will decide whether to admit the patient as an inpatient or to discharge him home. A brain concussion has not been confirmed by a CT scan at this stage,” the doctor at the First University Clinic stated.
According to Papuna Lochulashvili’s brother, Gigla Lochulashvili, Papuna fell ill in the afternoon and lost consciousness twice, following which it was decided to transfer him to the hospital.
“Up until the afternoon, he was more or less all right, but from the afternoon onwards, he began to feel weak. He lost consciousness twice, and after that we decided to have him brought to the hospital. He also had body pains: pain in the chest, in the neck area, his arm was hurting, the back of his head, and he was feeling nauseous. The ambulance decided to bring him to this clinic. He has now been admitted, and the relevant examinations are being carried out. We shall see what happens. He had been prescribed a bed rest regimen. He was up and about a little, and then in the afternoon he became unwell. He lost consciousness twice, and we called the ambulance,” said Gigla Lochulashvili.
In connection with the incident that took place in Gori, during which Papuna Lochulashvili sustained physical injuries, the Prosecutor’s Office has arrested six individuals on charges of exceeding official authority through the use of violence by police officers.
