GOC spokesperson: Meeting with parents of children suffering from DMD was constructive; future discussion scheduled

According to Dean Andria Jagmaidze, Head of the Georgian Orthodox Church’s Public Relations Service, the meeting with the parents of children suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) was both professional and engaging.

He stated that the Patriarchate intends to examine the issue thoroughly.

“The meeting was both constructive and quite insightful, as there are many aspects that require specialised knowledge. As far as we know, the disease remains poorly understood, and parents are eager for updates. The Patriarchate has some experience in addressing profoundly painful societal issues. Such matters are typically addressed in larger forums involving experts. We will endeavour to study the matter comprehensively. In the near future, a meeting will be held with specialists and stakeholders, with our participation. The Saints Joachim and Anne University Clinic will be involved from the Patriarchate’s side. We will utilise all available resources to provide appropriate support to children affected by this disease,” said Jaghmaidze.
