Giorgi Vashadze: New rules needed for parliamentary, local elections
“Parliamentary elections must be held under new rules first, followed by local government elections or both simultaneously,” according to Giorgi Vashadze, leader of Strategy Aghmashenebeli.
Vashadze said elections provide “an environment where people can express their will, and without creating such conditions, participation in elections would be wrong.”
“Strategy Aghmashenebeli has maintained this firm position from day one. We have a clear stance, which we established within the Resistance Platform framework: parliamentary, national elections must be held under new rules first, then local government elections, or both together.
If these rules are not reasonably close to what can be called elections, then elections will have no meaning whatsoever. When you have sanctioned CEC leadership that was exposed for election fraud just a few months ago, talk of elections is pointless.
Georgian Dream will be left alone, and this will be yet another clear statement that new parliamentary elections under new rules will bring Georgia out of this deep crisis. Let’s wait. I hope we will all reach this decision absolutely,” Vashadze stated.
