Giorgi Margvelashvili - Georgia as a drug producer country is not an image for which we are liked, appreciated, supported and protected
President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili is against production of any kind of narcotic drug in Georgia. As President said at the news briefing, the debates, which are still underway over the issue, are unclear for him.
The country’s first person thinks that the image of the drug producer will severely damage the image of Georgia on the international arena. “The society knows it well and I have never concealed that I am loyal to drug users. I have pardoned many drug users and I do not think they should sit in prison as criminals. Amid this, it is totally unacceptable for me to produce narcotics in Georgia and it is unacceptable for two main reasons – if we become a drug producer country, we will not be able to really control the spread of drugs and much more people will become victims of this illness.
The second factor is the foreign policy – Georgia as a drug producer country – this is not an image for which we are liked, appreciated, supported and protected. This is a very difficult image that can lead to difficult outcomes. Georgia cannot become the country, producing marijuana or other narcotics. This label cannot be stuck to our homeland,” Margvelashvili said.
