Giorgi Kvirikashvili - Inequality among regions often forces our citizens to leave their villages and country
The inequality among regions is challenge for me as it often forces our citizens to leave their villages; many of them have already left the country, – Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia has made the regarding statement at the presentation of local self-governance reform today.
As Prime Minister noted, one of the most important priorities for the Georgian government is to eliminate the standard of living inequality among regions of Georgia.
“Code of self-governance adopted in 2014 is a big step forward, which has created institutional and legislative framework. Implementing changes are important; it is the main axis and foundation on which the further steps of the reform should be built. Today, we present a mid-term strategic vision, which aims at strengthening the local self-governance. Our vision consists of three main directions. First, it is the expansion of self- governance. Second, to have more financial resources for more efficiency and distribution resources gradually; third, self-governance should meet transparency and accountability standards. It should ensure citizens’ involvement in decision-making and managing processes and of course, the all these three axes will give us another qualitative result in self-governance”, – Kvirikashvili said.
Presentation of a new concept of local self-governance and decentralization is being held at the Parliament of Georgia.
