I am very glad that today our joy is shared by the representatives of world scientific circles who arrived in Tbilisi to celebrate 100th  anniversary of our university”,  – Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said at the conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU).

“The idea of the university was much deeper than creation of even the most successful educational institution, – Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister talked about the significance of the university and noted that the Georgian educators crowned the Georgian national education with the university.”100 years ago, all the progressive ideas that were born in the scientific and cultural circles were brought together at TSU” – Prime minister said.

“The tireless efforts of Ivane Javakhishvili and his companions and their belief that Georgians had relevant intellectual resource, made it possible to embody this long-awaited idea of our famous ancestors and start a new epoch in Georgia”, said the PM.

“The idea of the university was much deeper than creation of even the most successful educational institution. This issue was of national importance, as it was matured when the idea of restoration of independence was becoming stronger in Georgia. Our great ancestors were relating the country’s independence and existence of a powerful educational, national cultural center to each other. And this was soon proved – Georgia declared independence on May 26, in a few months after the university was founded. These dates are of great importance for our history.

So, 2018 is a special, anniversary year for Georgia and we are obliged to celebrate these two greatest national events in a worthy way,” Giorgi Kvirikashvili said.

The Prime Minister also noted that he was proud that the university’s 100th anniversary was being celebrated under the auspices of UNESCO.
