Giorgi Gvarakidze: Georgia has been ranked in top "first basket" of the Global Anti-Trafficking Index for ten years
“The primary focus of the Prosecutor’s Office is combating organised crime, specifically trafficking. Georgia has maintained a position in the top ‘first basket’ of the Global Anti-Trafficking Index for ten consecutive years,” stated Prosecutor General Giorgi Gvarakidze during the presentation of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia’s 2025 activity report to the Prosecutorial Council.
According to Gvarakidze, the United States Department of State report confirmed that Georgia was the only country in the region to receive the highest rating in 2025 for its measures against trafficking.
Furthermore, he noted that the guidelines developed by the Prosecutor’s Office, which mandate the appointment of a witness and victim coordinator in trafficking cases, were positively evaluated.
“The report highlights the enhanced efforts in combating trafficking, including crime prevention, the detection of offenders, criminal prosecution, and victim protection. The guidelines introduced by the Prosecutor’s Office, which mandate the involvement of a witness and victim coordinator in trafficking cases, received positive feedback.
In 2025, the Interagency Multidisciplinary Group for the Detection, Prevention, and Suppression of Labour Trafficking, organised by the Prosecutor’s Office, actively worked on measures concerning labour trafficking, including the development of effective response mechanisms to cases of child trafficking,” the Prosecutor General added.
