Giorgi Gakharia: Our greatest need for unity reveals our deepest division

“When we need unity the most, we are the most divided. Those who sacrificed their lives for the independence of this country would be the last to want to see this,” writes Giorgi Gakharia, leader of the Gakharia for Georgia party, in a message shared on social media.

Gakharia emphasizes that everyone must fight for freedom and strive for “true peace.”

“April 9 is one of the darkest days in the recent history of our country, and under normal circumstances, we should all stand together, regardless of political affiliation or beliefs. Yet, after so many years, people still suffer from injustice, oppression, and violence, allowing our adversaries to achieve their goals. At a time when unity is most crucial, we find ourselves deeply divided. Those who sacrificed their lives for the independence of this nation would be appalled by this division.

This day serves as a poignant reminder of the words in Merab Kostava’s will: we must never cease fighting for freedom, for the true struggle begins after we achieve it and continues in its preservation. We are all obligated to fight for freedom, to advocate for genuine peace, and to resolve once and for all to carry on the mission initiated by the national movement,” Gakharia asserts.
