Giorgi Gakharia: Municipal elections, “peaceful overthrow” proved boycott emptied political arena

“Today, we, the For Georgia Party, made a deliberate and principled decision to assume our mandates in local municipalities across the country, as well as in Parliament, to reclaim political space and fight for public opinion,” the Gakharia for Georgia Party’s leader, Giorgi Gakharia, posted on his social media X.

According to Giorgi Gakharia, now they must win the hearts and minds of the Georgian people.

“The consequences of the October 2025 municipal elections and the October 4 so-called “peaceful overthrow” provocation attempt once again showed that boycott emptied the political arena, leaving Georgian citizens defenceless before the Georgian Dream regime’s propaganda and repression, strengthening its authoritarian rule and deepening radicalisation. Now, we all together must win the hearts and minds of the Georgian people to defend our nation’s civilizational choice to be part of the European family, and to safeguard Article 78 of the Georgian Constitution as the cornerstone of that choice,” Giorgi Gakharia posted.

The Gakharia for Georgia party has decided to take its seats in Parliament. Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the party’s political council, stated during a briefing that refusing to use the parliamentary and city council platforms is not merely a mistake, but a crime against the country and its people.
