German Chancellor glad Germany, Georgia condemn Russian aggression, adhere to EU-imposed sanctions

“Germany continues to support Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders,” said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the joint press conference with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

German Chancellor remarked that Germany and Georgia condemned Russian aggression and followed the EU-imposed sanctions against Russia.

“We know that Russia continues to advance its imperialist plans. This applies not only concerning the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, but we should not forget that Georgia itself has also been a victim of Russian aggression since 2008. Parts of Georgia are under Russian control in violation of international law. This is precisely why we need to represent clear positions. We do not accept this,” he said.

According to Olaf Scholz, Germany will also support the European Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM), to which Germany makes a large contribution in terms of personnel. He thanked the Georgian PM for his visit and hoped for future cooperation.

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze is on an official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany. Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz received Irakli Kobakhidze, together with the government delegation, at the official welcoming ceremony at the Federal Chancellery of Germany.
