German Ambassador admits Georgia's EU aspirations, says ball is now in its court

Georgia has expressed its intention to join the European Union. If this occurs, we will be delighted. The ball is now in Georgia’s court, said German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer on Thursday.

As the Ambassador stated, Europe would assist Georgia in making the game a success.

“Georgia has stated its intention to join the European Union. We will be delighted if this happens. The ball is now in Georgia’s court. Europe will assist Georgia in making the game a success. If Georgia’s goal is to join the EU, it should focus on that goal. The European Union is a union of pluralistic democratic countries. That is why the European Council issued a 12-point proposal for Georgia. Perhaps we can discuss the candidate’s status when these proposals are implemented. Following that, a lengthy and difficult path to join the European Union begins,” the Ambassador said.
