GeoStat: Georgia records 17,509 live births against 22,224 deaths in first half of 2026

According to data released by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat), the number of live births across the country between January and June 2026 totalled 17,509 children. Over the same period, 22,224 deaths were registered nationwide.

GeoStat reports that natural population growth (the net difference between live births and deaths) for the first half of 2026 was negative, standing at –4,715 individuals. The data shows positive natural growth in two regions: Tbilisi (+424) and the Autonomous Republic of Adjara (+330).

The agency’s report further details that 10,006 marriages and 6,095 divorces were registered during the first six months of 2026.

The highest number of marriages was recorded in Tbilisi with 2,993 unions registered in the first half of the year, followed by Imereti with 1,466 cases, Kvemo Kartli with 1,302, and the Autonomous Republic of Adjara with 1,144.

Similarly, the highest number of divorces occurred in Tbilisi, totalling 2,130 cases. Imereti registered 968 divorces, Kvemo Kartli reported 674, and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti recorded 554.
