Georgia’s President – Georgian language is basement of our identity
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili opened the conference “State Language for Civic Integration and Human Capital Development in Georgia.”
President talked about the role of the state language. She said that the Georgian language was the basement of the identity of Georgian people. “Protection of Georgian language is my constitutional obligation. This is a big responsibility and pride. The state cannot exist without a language. The language is unifier of the society,” Zurabishvili said.
Also, according to President, language is the part of culture and it represents a state flag abroad. She also underlined on the importance of representatives of the Georgian Diaspora in popularization of the Georgian language and their engagement in distant teaching.
Zurabishvili said that the Georgian language had to become the mother tongue for representatives of national minorities living in Georgia as well. “Knowing of state language has to be the main tool for integration into public life,” President said.
The conference is jointly organized by Presidential Administration, Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Office of State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality and Zurab Zhvania State Administering School.
